Guiding you through the first steps:

IEP meeting consultation and coordination with non-attorney parent advocates

  • We listen to you tell us about your child's public school education in New  York and, applying our professional knowledge, identify possible legal issues.

  • We suggest options and listen to your objectives. Then, we provide talking points for your meetings with your public school district.

  • We refer you to reliable, highly experienced non-attorney advocates in the New York metropolitan area who can accompany you to your meetings and coordinate as a team to consider next legal steps

  • If necessary, we refer you to experienced educational consultants in the New  York area

Payment for  Independent evaluations:

If your child has been evaluated by your school district, you may be entitled to a private evaluation at district expense:

  • Make sure you have legal grounds to assert this claim

  • Guide you in asking for independent evaluations in a way that meets legal requirements and review the District's response

  • Initiate a Due Process claim if the District refuses the evaluation or does not respond appropriately

Due process proceedings for special education:

This is the legal proceeding where you assert your rights for relief under the IDEA. It is often called an impartial hearing request because the claims are heard by impartial hearing officers. Our job is to make sure that you have all of the facts to support your legal claim.

In addition to asking for independent evaluations, we bring claims for:

  • Private school tuition reimbursement

  • Compensatory education or related services that should have been given to you or your child

  • Services or instruction at enhanced rates, including special education teacher support services (SETSS) within the New York City Department of Education, at an enhanced rate for children in private schools

  • Educational placement in the mainstream (inclusion)
