Sharing Documents and Communicating with your Attorney

Tags:

When you meet with an attorney, you will be bringing records with you. Under any circumstances, do NOT give the attorney original documents. Make copies. Documents get lost and attorneys have this habit of making notes on the documents. Keep your originals. Also, the relationship with your attorney is a two-way street. Respond to their communications and expect your attorney to respond to you.

Note also that each state requires lawyers to adhere to a set of ethics rules. New York State, are administered by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court. Clients have rights and those guidelines are found at www.nycourts.gov/litigants/clientsrights.shtml. Connecticut’s rules may be found at www.jud.ct.gove/Publications/PracticeBook/PB.pdf.
